R & P Post 14: My Target Audience

An example of our primary
 target audience group.
Our audience has a wide-ranging balance of ages, genders and interests, and due to the fact that we are promoting an up-and-coming debut artist, we aimed to widen the market for our artist as much as possible to gain as much public interest and popularity as possible, thus potentially generating more sales. Our target audience can be roughly broken down:

Primary Audience:
Our primary audience is made up of:
-female teenagers & young adults

We decided that our core target audience is made up of female teenagers. Our use not only of a female vocalist as our artist, but also of the positive messages which she represents and her role model status, can hopefully attract the interest of many teenage girls, as they are essentially being specifically addressed with these positive messages and beliefs of self-
assurance and equality.
With the success of a number of female artists in recent years,
the female demographic could become more important to target

Secondary & Tertiary Audiences:
Our wider audiences are made up of:
-younger girls
-all women
-mothers
Younger girls may look to our artist as an
inspiration or role model. Alternatively,
the catchy pop tune of our track could
be a reason to consume our artist's music.
-fans of the pop/synthpop genre

Our wider audience is made up of a general female audience, as women in general are likely to associate with our artist and her message. Meanwhile, younger girls can be considered a secondary audience, as they may consider our artist an inspiration or role model figure, thus are able to look up to her, consume her music with its positive beliefs and messages and become a fan. A direct consequence of younger girls consuming our artist's music is the possibility of a tertiary audience of mothers, who whilst being women themselves, may not be aware of our artist until her children listen the song, which has more than likely been judged for its language, content & message and purchased beforehand by the mother.
Mothers will more than likely have
approved their children's choices of
music, which is a potential positive
to appeal to an audience of both
 young girls and their mothers.

It is, though, still very important not to alienate the male segment of the market, even though our marketing is perhaps skewed towards targeting women. General fans of pop & synthpop, also, can still consume one of our artist's tracks musically regardless of the message - or alternatively enjoy the positive message the song aims to advertise. However, this is unlikely, as this tertiary audience segment are extremely unlikely to be devoted fans of our artist.
