R & P Post 15: My record label

Initial record ideas
Having conducted research into record labels, we decided to construct and design our own label - 'Glass Ceiling Records'. It is an independent British label specialising in signing up-and-coming female artists from both mainstream pop and other subgenres such as alternative & punk rock.

Type of label: British independent
Formed: 2014
Location: London, United Kingdom
Genre: Various - predominantly pop & rock

Below is the logo I constructed for our record label:

When coming up with the name & theme of our label, we decided to tailor it towards upcoming female artists whilst promoting a feminist image. Although this wasn't necessarily conventional, we felt that this could exploit a potential gap in the market - especially given its increasingly prominent status in a music industry still viewed as male-dominant over the past few years.

"Glass Ceiling Records" was the name which we decided upon - taking inspiration from the idea of an invisible barrier preventing progress in an industry, especially for women. However, it also has connotations of being able to be smashed through, which we aimed to indicate through our logo.

In order to reflect our message through the logo, we made deliberate choices to use the strong imagery of a feminist clenched fist to make a statement, whilst the dark purple and black colour scheme is designed to connote the female gender, yet not to come across as overly, stereotypically feminine.
