R & P Post 17: My chosen track

The track chosen by my group for our music video is 'Sit Still, Look Pretty' (please access below) by Daya: an upcoming 17-year old female soloist from Pittsburgh, PA. The song mainly deals with the themes of independence and female empowerment. Although the music video for the song was released for MTV and YouTube on 9th September 2016, this shouldn't affect us too much, as the song is still relatively unknown in the UK, and fortunately our ideas for our own video differ to those in Daya's.

Daya's 'Sit Still, Look Pretty' was released on 29th March 2016 and is the second single from her self-titled EP, 'Daya', as well as her debut studio album (also called 'Sit Still, Look Pretty'). In terms of chart success, whilst not making it onto the UK charts, it peaked at 28 on the US' Billboard Hot 100.

Amongst the song's writers is Gino Barletta, who co-founded the Artbeatz indie record label which Daya is under as a subsidiary of Z Entertainment. The track's distribution and marketing was handled by RED - a subsidiary of the Sony Music Entertainment conglomerate.

(please click to enlarge) Our email sent to Artbeatz requesting permission to use the song
Thus far, we have received no reply to the email, though we have decided to advance with our project on the basis that we have not been given any explicit instruction not to use the song.
